Things to do – the luchtfabriek (Air Factory) in Zolder

Zolder has a rich history of coal mines. A fun fact: the last coal mine in the Benelux closed in 1992 in Zolder.

One of the beautiful locations that has been preserved is ZLDR Luchtfabriek. The Air Factory tells the story (in an interesting way) of the circulation of fresh air at a depth of 1000 meters and the daily challenges involved.

ZLDR Luchtfabriek can be visited daily (7 days a week) free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday afternoon – 2 p.m. – there is a tour of ZLDR Luchtfabriek. This includes an hour-long explanation about the technical challenges and you will take a walk through the mine site. The costs for this tour and walk are € 3 pp (up to 12 years free). Reservation is not necessary.

Address: Marktplein 5, 3550 Heusden-Zolder
