Things to do- C-mine in Genk

A quarter of an hour’s drive from B&B Number5.

C-mine is a hybrid, creative site on the foundations of the Winterslag coal mine in Genk.

The industrial mining heritage has been carefully renovated to produce a fascinating relationship with the contemporary architectural buildings and elements. Students, artists, entrepreneurs, and visitors all cross paths every day. The centre of the artistic capital lies in the university college, where the photographers and product designers of tomorrow are trained.

The site also houses an ‘incubator’ for young companies in the creative sector. The artist in residence is Piet Stockmans. From his studio in the warehouse building, this porcelain artist sends his refined designs worldwide.

The connection between all elements is the energy building, which welcomes you from behind the stately shafts and the imposing art installation ‘Labyrinth’ on the square. With a year-round program of high-quality exhibitions, projects and presentations, C-mine is a public favourite.

Tips for visitors: C-mine expedition with audio guides and children’s games / Studio Pieters Stockmans / Vennestraat, Street of the Senses / temporary exhibitions
